Summit Self-Care Sessions

Self-care means being aware of when we are feeling overwhelmed and taking time to debrief with others, or to remove ourselves from a stressful, triggering, or overwhelming situation and access resources that best support and nurture our physical, spiritual and psychological needs. Our Hawaiʻi Summit provides space and opportunities for self-care and wellness/healing/support throughout the event.

*Please note that Self Care sessions are not eligible for CE credit

A Very Special Team Indeed!
Paul Needham

Tuesday, April 9th, Wednesday, April 10th, and Thursday, April 11th from 7:30 am – 8:15 am

You and your team are so incredibly special. What you do as an individual and as a team of professionals and paraprofessionals to serve and protect vulnerable populations takes a special skill set, a special gift, a special calling, a special person. In this session together, we will explore what it is that makes you and your team special and why it is so important to honor and recognize each other and take care of yourself and each other as you serve your clients with dignity and respect. If nothing else, my hope is that you are able to see for yourself how truly special you are.

Mindful Breathing and Somatic Experiencing Dawn Martin

Tuesday, April 9th from 12:15 pm – 1:00 pm

Breathwork is especially powerful for self-care as it impacts both the brain and body to naturally decrease reactivity in the nervous system and ease you into a state of relaxation and focus. Somatic experiencing sessions allow you to reconnect with your body through movement that is performed consciously with complete internal focus and attention. The workshop will include; Tactile Activation (reinvigorating and grounding in the body through self-to-self physical contact), Mobilizing the Upper Body (freeing up the muscles and joints of the back, ribcage, neck, shoulders, and arms through a simple mobilizing exercise), Posterior Chain Stretch (waking up, lengthening, and soothing the spine, pelvis, and muscles that run the length of the back of the body), Grounding (releasing body weight through the feet and into the floor, reestablishing a conscious sense of grounding and centering through that connection), Moving Our Weight (organizing, coordinating, and reconnecting all of the parts of the body through simple weight shifts to bring yourself back to center), Releasing and Activating through Effort (using effortful breath and movement qualities to wake up the sense and release any tension or stress that is being held within the body), Finding Your Groove (using music to access rhythm and your physical sense of yourself through dance).
